The midwives at Hearth and Home Midwifery view pregnancy and birth as natural, physiologic processes. We believe that these events are intimately connected to what it is to be human, and that birth offers an opportunity for empowerment and profound learning about one’s self. These beliefs are the foundation of the way we practice.

During the prenatal period, we work to build trusting relationships with our clients in order to maximize the safety and emotional connection during the course of each client’s care. We offer continuity of care and informed consent as a central tenet of our philosophy; we know that each person is different and therefore each birth will be different. Our practice offers family-centered, evidence-based, individualized care, as we trust that each birthing person is the expert on their own needs and experiences, and that our job is to facilitate a client’s desires for their birth and make recommendations based on medical evidence as needed in order to provide a safe, nurturing space in which birth can occur.

We respect the autonomy of the birthing person as the center of their own care, and we honor the experience of new babies and their right to have the gentlest beginning possible. We endeavor to provide competent care to people of all ethnicities, sexes, genders, sexual orientations, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, nationalities, ages, sizes, and abilities.
